About My Practice
Process, material, presence.
My practice is grounded in process, material awareness, and embodied experience. I was born in Riga, Latvia, and later moved to London, where my creative and professional practice developed.
I hold a BA in Technical Arts and Special Effects for Film and Theatre from the University of the Arts London (2014). After university I worked in London as a model fabricator, gaining experience in model making, sculpting, drafting, and concept development.
Working so closely with materials shaped the way I approach making. This hands-on practice fostered a deep attentiveness to materials, rhythm, and making through presence, and continues to influence the way I work in the studio today.
Background
After a period working outside the art industry, i returned to sustained studio practice, developing a process-led approach rooted in material investigation and surface construction.
Returning to the studio also brought me back to the physical side of making: how materials behave, how can i make my own surfaces, and how decisions in colour, shape and texture can shift the whole composition.
Studio Practice
I work with geometric abstraction to translate sensations, moods and inner states into visual form. My work often begins with drawing, observation, words or simple shapes, which are then repeated, altered and pushed towards abstraction.
I am interested in the relationship between the body, place and the present moment, and how colour, surface, form and repetition can communicate an experience.
